This is a third version of the very popular Guatemalan drink for the end of the year festivities. With a few small variations in the ingredients and an additional step in the instructions, you will discover another way to enjoy this delicious drink.
Not to mention, this is a great way to bring in some warmth and energy during the cold season of the year. Ideal to welcome a new year with your family and friends.
Ingredients
- 16 cups of water
- 3 cinnamon sticks
- 4 grains of fat pepper
- ½ teaspoon of cloves
- 2 teaspoon of ginger
- 1 orange peel
- 1 small pineapple in pieces
- 1 cup cubed apple small pieces
- ½ cup dried chopped prunes
- 1 cup of raisins
- 1/2 cup of dates
- 1/2 cup of sugar
- 1 cup of panela powder
- 1/2 cup of dehydrated peach
- 3 star anise seeds
- 1 cup of fig (dehydrated or fresh)
- 1/2 cup rum
Instructions
Step 1 : Cut all the fruit into pieces and then place the fruit, spices and cinnamon in a large pot, add the water and bring to a boil at high temperature.
Step 2 : Then reduce the heat to low and cover and simmer for 20 mins.
Step 3 : Add the sugar and panela powder to the mixture and then cover it again and simmer for another 20 mins.
Step 4 : Remove from the heat and let cool. Place all the fruit with a little bit of the juice from the pot into a blender machine, then blend until we get a homogeneous mixture.
Step 5 : Return the mixture that we have just blended to the pot along with the rest of the fruit juice that we had left. Then heat for 5 minutes before serving.
Step 6 : (Optional) Add a little bit of rum to each cup when serving if desired.
