If you have visited Guatemala during the Christmas season, you have undoubtedly heard of the exquisite Christmas drink Rompope. This delicious and very popular drink is originally from Salcajá, Quetzaltenango Guatemala.
This delicious drink is prepared with milk and a little special touch of liquor, ideal to enjoy it with the typical dishes of this time of the end of the year in Guatemala. If you have not tried it, we know you will love it and that is why we share a simple recipe for you to prepare and enjoy at home with your family and friends.
Step 1 : Heat the milk with the cinnamon in a pot over low heat, remember to keep moving the milk constantly (we recommend using a wooden paddle), as soon as it begins to boil, remove it from the heat and let it cool completely.
Step 2 : Crush the almonds a little and then in a blender machine, blend the almonds, sugar, nutmeg, a little bit of milk and egg yolks for 5 minutes.
Step 3 : To the remaining milk, add a pinch of baking soda, vanilla extract and add it all to the mixture in the blender machine and then blend a little more.
Step 4 : Heat the mixture again in a saucepan over medium heat until it boils, remember to stir it constantly until it boils. Then remove from the heat.
Step 5 : Let it cool and add the glass of rum.
Step 6 : Finally, place the “rompope” in a closed container and let it rest for at least a full day.
Done! Now you can enjoy this delicious drink, perhaps with a little ice in the middle of the afternoon, a little cinnamon powder on top, accompanied by a dessert or as you wish.
