This is another of the typical Guatemalan sweets, also known as "dulce de conserva de coco" (in Spanish). One of the favorites not only for Guatemalans, but also for foreign tourists who visit Guatemala.
This is a simple recipe to make, and it is prepared in an artisan way, like all typical Guatemalan sweets. This sweet-candy is usually enjoyed mostly at festivities in many departments of Guatemala. But of course they are found in typical candy stores in Antigua Guatemala, Amatitlan and Esquipulas.
Preparing it is easy and fast, the ingredients can be found easily and it has the quality that it can be stored for a long time (in a covered glass container).
Step 1 : Place all the ingredients in a pot and cook for about 40 minutes. Remember to constantly stir the mixture with the wooden paddle to prevent the mixture from sticking to the pot or burning.
Step 2 : Remove the mixture from the heat and place it on a tray covered with wax paper (remember to remove the cinnamon sticks from the mixture). Spread the mixture evenly on the surface, it is advisable to flatten the mixture with a firm spatula so that it is compact and even. Let it cool down.
Step 3 : Make cuts to form small squares of 5x5 centimeters or any size you wish.
Enjoy !
